In my understanding, ecology and ecosystem are two intertwined concepts. Ecology is the scientific study of interactions among organisms and their environment, while an ecosystem refers to a specific community of living organisms coexisting with non-living components in their environment. Essentially, ecology provides the principles and theories that explain how ecosystems function, change, and develop.
