Rebecca Lujan Loveless
It was as a pastor in the local church leading people to local and global community transformation that I first stumbled upon Asset Based Community Development. Having spent 13 years creating programs and activities that offered relief and betterment to poor communities around the country and around the globe, I became dissatisfied with the results of all our hard work. I began educating myself and other leaders about how to measure the quality of our work so that we could be better stewards of our collective gifts and resources.
Now as I give leadership to POLIS Institute I am finding new joy in living a life of dignified interdependence with the people that God calls me to neighbor. POLIS’ research has uncovered that there are 100 distressed neighborhoods in Greater Orlando. We believe that the well-being of the city will only improve when the talents of the poor are properly engaged. It is with this conviction that we research best practices of Asset Based Community Development, create tools to help implement these theories and ultimately engage churches, business, academia, government and other non-profits in creative approaches to living in a city of Shalom.
