Eric Smith

I was born and raised in DR Congo, Africa. This experience gave me a passion for serving under resourced communities. It also gave me insight into the importance of community and asset building as a way to combat the effects of poverty.

I serve in the Miami Valley of Ohio with Think Tank, Inc., promoting the practices and principles of Asset Based Community Development. Current projects include working with the Ft. McKinley campus of Ginghamsberg Church in west Dayton to develop a meaningful approach to building relationships with, and connect residents to each other, in the surrounding urban neighborhood. The church wishes to play a role in seeing God’s Shalom manifest itself more fully by helping the residents of the Ft. McKinley neighborhood to identify and express their gifts and to mobilize around their interests and shared vision.

I also serve as an Organizer with the Promise Neighborhood initiative in Springfield. Promise Neighborhood exists to build Springfield/Clark County as a community that does everything possible to ensure that every child is school ready by kindergarten and college or career ready by graduation. To achieve this goal, Promise Neighborhood is taking a holistic approach to child and youth development. Promise Neighborhood understands that children and youth need thriving neighborhoods where parents and residents, and not just the formal education institutions, are engaged in the process of creating the future that they want for their children and youth.
