Hillside Neighborhood Practices Togetherness

Being together doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Small engine repair, bread making, yoga instruction, and college preparation are just a few of the skills neighbors from the Hillside community (LaGrange, GA) are sharing to deepen the sense of community there. Residents state that they want to be committed to neighborliness by sharing of talents and celebrating as much as possible. A few ideas that are coming together are a coffee night, yoga classes for families and community gardening. Here is a video from J.T. Mims on how he hopes to use a set of under utilized raised beds to build community and take part in one of his favorite activities, spending time outdoors. J.T. is resourceful and has been extremely influential in the cultivating of the soil in the beds by using grass clippings, wood chips, compost and newspapers.
